I am currently reading The Gospel according to Starbucks by Leonard Sweet.
There is a quote in it that has really rocked my world today! I have heard stuff about the Christian lifestyle for years. Some used to and still do believe that is was a Sunday thing. Some believe it is a lifestyle. Sweet says: " If we learn one lesson from Starbucks, it is this: People dont go out of their way to search for hype and superficiality - those are free for the asking. Starbucks, more than most corporations, understands the irresistible attraction of authentic experience. Perhaps the leading corporate evangelists can help open the eyes of Christians to what we have lost. If faith is indeed a life (which it is) and not merely a course of study or an intriguing intellectual pursuit (which it was never meant to be), then faith is nothing less than the consuming experience of God. It is not a set of beliefs or even a lifestyle, but breath and pulse and life itself. It is the opposite of hype; it is heartbeat." This last statement has me really thinking. I have been told, and told people, that it is a lifestyle, for years. But Sweet in just a few sentences says it is a "Heartbeat"! That is worth chewing on!
